As a Pre-School playgroup, we offer each child the chance to learn through play. This means that the children are having fun whilst they are learning. With the support of trained, caring staff, they develop an understanding of themselves, of others and of the world around them.
Our sessions always start with the children finding their names to put in the name box; this is part of our registration. The children then have ‘free play’ with access to many self-initiated activities and equipment. When all the children have arrived we open the door to the garden to provide ‘free flow’ in and out.
Snack is set up as a ‘running bar’ and parents are asked to provide a healthy snack of fruit, veg, or cheese or alternatively we have a healthy choice of snacks available for those who would prefer the Pre-School to provide them.
Towards the end of the session we ask the children to help tidy up ready for our ‘group activities’. These are fun activities planned to challenge their abilities and to help towards team building, such as Bean Bag Relays, Football Skills, Drama, Keep Fit, Cooking, Road Safety and so on. Our session plans are always placed next to the register so that parents are able to see what we are up to each day. We also include a story time in our busy schedule.
As lunch is only half an hour, it is a very quick affair, but the children find it great preparation for big school. It also gives the staff the opportunity for chats and discussions on how the day has been for the children and what they would like play with in the afternoon.
